Hello, I’m Damien Pierre. I’m a UI/UX Designer and Frontend Developer who bridges the gap between design vision and technical reality.
Based in Berlin, I bring over 15 years of experience creating user-centered digital products that people actually want to use.
How I Got Here
My path into design and development wasn’t typical. It was born out of necessity and curiosity. Early in my career at Obility GmbH, I was the only designer on the team. When it came time to implement my designs, I had two choices: hand off static mockups and hope for the best, or learn to code and bring my vision to life myself.
I chose the latter.
What started as pragmatic problem-solving became a genuine passion. The developers I worked with were incredibly supportive, grateful even, that someone wanted to bridge the gap between design and engineering. That collaboration taught me something valuable: the best digital products emerge when design and code aren’t separate disciplines, but a continuous conversation.
What I Do Best
I specialize in design systems and component-based development. I create scalable, maintainable interfaces that serve both users and the teams who build them. My sweet spot is finding the problems others overlook, then crafting tailored solutions that actually solve them.
At bettermarks, I spent nearly six years doing exactly that: identifying pain points in our math learning platform, prototyping solutions, testing with real users, and then implementing them in production code. I rebuilt our entire icon system, modernized our design system, and introduced tools like Storybook that reduced friction between design and engineering.
I don’t just design interfaces, I build them. I don’t just write code, I make sure it serves the user’s needs.
My Approach
- User-centered but pragmatic: Beautiful design means nothing if it doesn’t solve real problems
- Collaborative by nature: My best work happens in close partnership with product managers, engineers, and users
- Quality over speed: I’d rather build something right than build something fast
- Detail-obsessed: The little things matter (microinteractions, accessibility, performance, consistency)
What I’m Looking For
After nearly six years at bettermarks, I took time to invest in personal growth and new skills: I cycled 1,000 km solo through Japan, built Gargantua (a full-featured recipe management app) from scratch, and taught myself Swift/SwiftUI for native iOS development.
Now I’m ready for my next challenge.
I’m looking for a role where I can apply my hybrid design-development skillset to meaningful problems. I thrive in environments that value craft, collaboration, and thoughtful product development. While I’m open to most industries with a strong UI/UX focus, I have a particular affinity for cultural and creative sectors.
