Splash screen animations for BonBoi, a fine-dining restaurant app

The Project
When my friend Kris needed an animated splash screen for BonBoi, his fine-dining restaurant management app, I knew exactly what to do.
I pitched Lottie animations: crisp SVG-based graphics that stay razor-sharp on any screen while keeping file sizes microscopic (thanks, JSON format).
The design process kicked off with sketches exploring how the animation would scale across smartphones, tablets, and larger displays, because a splash screen should feel native everywhere, not like a compromise.
Sketches
Early sketches explored the kanban-based interface in full detail, mapping out the complexity of the real application.

Early sketeches with broad color palette and complex shapes
Through iteration and feedback, simplifying the shapes and reducing visual noise became the key to making the animation feel effortless and more recognizable.

Animation Process
Early experiments played with fading borders and fills, adjusting anchor points, and exploring rotation and scale to find the right motion language.

Final Animations
I ended up creating a more refined, smooth & minimal animation where the app’s shapes fade into color before the title gracefully appears.
